RB Leipzig win first VBL Showdown in Munich

RB Leipzig's esports side RBLZ Gaming won the first offline Showdown of the Virtual Bundesliga (VBL) Club Championship by WOW on Sunday 25 October 2026, beating SC Paderborn 07 12-11 on aggregate after extra time in the two-legged final at the Allianz Arena in Munich. RB Leipzig confirmed the result on 26 October and said the club is still unbeaten and top of the overall table.
Sixteen clubs had qualified for the Munich event from the online round, while TSG Hoffenheim's eSPORTS side finished that stage on six points and missed the bracket. RBLZ Gaming arrived in Munich in perfect form, winning all six online matches for a maximum 18 points with a 59-25 goal difference.
In the offline bracket the Leipzig side beat Holstein Kiel 8-4, VfB Stuttgart 9-7 and SV Darmstadt 98 13-8 before the final. Paderborn won the first leg 5-4, but RBLZ turned it around in the return, winning 8-6 in extra time to seal the 12-11 aggregate.
According to reporting published on 29 October, the title also carried roughly 9,000 euros in prize money, eight bonus points in the overall standings and a direct place in the final of the VBL Player Championship, leaving RBLZ on 26 points from ten matches with a 101-55 goal difference. The next stage is already fixed: the second Showdown starts with online rounds on 3 November, and the offline knockout rounds are staged on 14 November at XPERION Berlin on Alexanderplatz, with further stops in Dresden and Cologne to follow.
The VBL runs monthly Showdowns from October 2026 through February 2027, and the German club champion will be crowned at the finals in Hamburg. In the Club Championship, 35 clubs from the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga collect points across five Showdowns for an overall table, and the top eight qualify directly for the final on 12 and 13 March 2027 at XPERION Hamburg.
For Hong Kong league and Pro Clubs players, the most useful part is the structure behind the result: a fixed club roster, an online round that sets the table, and a single-elimination offline bracket to decide the title. That is the same three-step model a local FC 27 club competition can run.
Note that each Showdown tie is decided by one-on-one matches between the clubs' players rather than 11v11 Clubs, so a Pro Clubs squad cannot enter the VBL as a unit, but individual members can still sharpen their one-on-one game before their next Clubs fixture.
